The Different Neurotypes:

1A (Intensity)

If you're highly competitive, driven, and goal-oriented, chances are you have a 1A neurotype. The 1A program is designed to help you thrive with high-intensity, low-volume training focused on developing strength that will trasnfer to fast swimming.

Traits:

  • Very verbal - talks a lot and talks loud to intimidate the other person if not great argumentative skills
  • Always wants to be the leader or the center of attention.
  • Doesn’t do well with authority.
  • High self-esteem and confidence (partly why they don’t care outwardly about others).
  • Can be happy to piss people off.
  • Very competitive - trash talker - sore loser - sore winner.
  • When they lose they’ll act in a way to reduce the worth of your victory.
  • Very intense but burns out easily - struggles to pace themselves in training or work.
  • Hate rules unless they’re breaking them.
  • Wants to do things their own way.
  • Loves to convince others they’re right.
  • Impatient.
  • Very “goal driven”
  • Seeks conflict so they can win the situation.
  • Acts on impulse and emotions - decisions not thought through fully, not fully developed or strategised.
  • Great under pressure.
  • Loves to take risks - daredevil sports, gambling, drugs or general thrill-seeking behaviours.
  • Can be very charismatic - but after a while it becomes obvious everything is all about them.
  • Good at getting things done when they need to.
  • Great motivators (for short period of time at least).

1B (Explosive)

1B Neurotypes are explosive and natural speed athletes. They're fast learners and have the ability to mix things up in their training. They thrive off lower volumes in training and working at higher intensities using more explosive work and making the most of their wonderful ability to utilise the stretch reflex to their advantage. They can handle higher volumes but they pay the price later on in their recovery. If you're a type 1B you need to have something to chase each week - we like to aim for PBs in certain lifts, but we switch things up every 3 weeks or so to keep you engaged and facing new challenges regularly.

Traits:

  • Can have an explosive personality. Very calm most of the time but can have explosive moments and a few minutes later are chill again as if nothing happened.
  • Seeks out more intense/thrilling activities/sports/gambling/intense relationships etc.
  • Constantly needs to try new experiences and craves getting new knowledge.
  • High self-esteem.
  • Won’t go out of their way to seek approval from others, but more aware of others than the 1A.
  • Very competitive, but not as extreme as the 1A. More likely to play it cool when losing or winning.
  • Very easy motor learning. Usually seen as the “fast learners” - they pick up new skills very quickly which can be annoying for others.
  • Fast, agile and explosive. Better at using the stretch reflex than being particularly strong.
  • Good at focusing on one thing, but good at switching quickly between tasks (often seen as ability to multi-task).
  • Impatient. Prefer to be doing something in the meantime rather than just waiting.
  • They hate waiting and like to be growing and improving and moving forwards constantly.
  • Very goal-driven.
  • Not greatly affected by what others think of them as much as other neurotypes - but still able to take their feedback into consideration.
  • Very good under pressure
  • Difficult to swim fast in-season - but when the stakes are high is when they thrive.
  • Loves to take risks and go “all in” on something completely different.
  • Doesn’t do well with authority but tend to take a less direct approach than the 1A to tackle it.

2A (Variety)

2As are the Chameleons and are highly adaptable to new training styles - however they constantly need change to see results and be motivated by their program. Everything works, but nothing works for a long time.

Traits:

  • Highly motivated by earning the respect and admiration of others.
  • Tend to mimic the behaviour of the person in front of them. Do whatever is needed to be liked or appreciated by the person they’re with.
  • Don’t like going into large groups if they don’t know any/many of them. Hates to feel left out.
  • Lower self-esteem at rest when adrenaline is low.
  • Doesn’t take much adrenaline to boost them into high self-esteem, but can easily choke if there’s too much.
  • Wants to get along with everybody.
  • Great at creating different personalities based on the situation.
  • Hard to get the truth out of them - they will be so excited to make plans with you face to face and then will cancel plans later over text. They don’t want to hurt people’s feelings because they need to be liked.
  • Great at reading people so they know how to respond in an appropriate way.
  • Needs to create reciprocity with the person they’re talking to - When someone is talking they’ll say “no way - the same thing happened to me!”.
  • Want others to think of them very highly - a little appreciation goes a very long way. One compliment can be remembered by them forever.
  • Losing face is destructive for them - making fun of them, even as a joke, can hurt their feelings and reduce their self-esteem.
  • Tends to mimic the most influential person around them, tend to pick up accents of the people they’re around very quickly.
  • Imitating professional athletes can be a great way to motivate them and get them to understand techniques or mindsets.
  • Doesn’t like to make decisions because doesn’t want to upset people as they need to be liked.
  • Needs variation and change
  • Procrastinates and does better work last minute.

2B (Sensation)

2Bs can be very emotional and love to feel everything. They're big people pleasers and are often seen as the "good guys" because they will sacrifice themselves for the benefit of others. They want to work hard and feel the burn and sweat to be motivated by their program particularly if it earns the respect of others. They need to physically FEEL like they achieved something.

Traits:

  • Lower self-esteem generally
  • Great at reading people
  • More introverted but still needs to respect and approval of others.
  • They can become more extraverted when they feel good and adrenaline increases.
  • Much better one on one - can make you feel very important.
  • Very emotional
  • Can easily fall in love
  • Loves to dress well and look good.
  • Likes displays of emotion like grand gestures
  • Gives everything to their close relationships
  • Seen as the “good guy” as they are people pleasers - although they can be seen as weak because of this.
  • Wants to avoid disappointing people at all costs.
  • Greatest need is to be liked, desired, admired.
  • Great at listening to others and helping them.
  • Doesn’t like to be the leader.
  • Will work harder than everybody else if they think it’ll earn them respect.
  • Sacrifice their well-being for the good of others.
  • Most prone to choking under pressure.
  • Don’t want a whole lot of variation in their program.
  • Tend to like to stick to the exercises or sets they love.
  • Increases in training difficulty need to be very gradual so they don't get demotivated by not being good at a new thing.

3 (Control)

The highest anxiety of all the neurotypes is the type 3. They crave control to decrease their stress. There neurotypes are the best at thinking, analysing and gathering data. They love to work on technique and follow a long-term plan. The best plan for them is one which is predictable and doesn’t change too much.

Traits:

  • Introverted usually (unless they feel in control of the situation or have a lot of experience)
  • Can be uncomfortable when “too relaxed” because they let their guard down.
  • Can struggle to adapt due to high levels of cortisol naturally.
  • Chronic overthinker
  • Functions better when following a structure or routine.
  • Doesn’t deal well with unexpected changes in a plan
  • Objective and less intuitive
  • Hates taking risks
  • Loves playing it safe.
  • Prefers repetition over novelty or variation
  • Great observer and information gatherer
  • Intellectualise decisions
  • Doesn’t tend to talk a lot uness enough data is gathered to have an opinion
  • Can be secretive about sharing information with others
  • Doesn’t like thrills.
  • Less inclined to create social connections
  • Extreme focus and concentration
  • Very patient
  • Need to feel in control to push hard enough to progress.
  • Have the lowest capacity to recover from high intensity work.
